Secaucus junior Nofair Sawires was selected as Wrestler of the Week after a perfect 5-0 stretch, highlighted by wins over district champions.

After four days of voting, Secaucus junior Nofair Sawires has been selected as Wrestler of the Week for the Feb. 8–14 window, a recognition fueled by both performance and fan support.

Sawires put together a 5-0 week that combined steady offense with controlled late-match decisions. The run featured notable victories over district champions Jerzey Ryan (New Milford) and Michael VanderMuelen (Jackson), two opponents known for tough pace and positional battles.

The results pushed the 157-pound standout to 18-2 on the season at the time of the honor, continuing what has been one of his most consistent stretches of the year.

What stood out this week

Coaches and fans pointed to Sawires’ ability to score first, stay composed in scrambles, and manage the final minute—turning close situations into wins without giving away easy counters.

Even in matches where the pace slowed, Sawires stayed active: pressuring ties, hand-fighting for angles, and keeping opponents working from the center. That approach helped him stack wins while limiting risky positions.

Season momentum

With the postseason approaching, the strong week served as a reminder of the ceiling Sawires can hit when he’s sharp on entries and disciplined on defense. Secaucus has leaned on that reliability in dual meets and tournament settings alike.

The next challenge is sustaining the same pace against deeper brackets, where every round forces adjustments. If the Feb. 8–14 stretch is any preview, Sawires is trending at the right time.
